We're not playing around.

UI is committed to the development of young leaders into engaged and informed global citizens.

Urban Initiatives’ mission is to use the power of sport and play to empower youth to achieve academic success, develop social-emotional skills, and build social capital.

In alignment with our mission, we have established UI Global Sport Experiences and are expanding opportunities for global experiential learning for our high school students.

This 8-day Dream Trip includes exploring the Swiss alps, experiencing the culture and attractions of Zurich, and attending two matches of the UEFA Women’s EURO Cup in Zurich and Basel, Switzerland. Our delegation will also meet with local like-minded youth sports organizations.

2025: Switzerland

This trip includes opportunities for UI students to travel to Australia. While there, they will explore cities like Sydney and attend Women’s World Cup soccer matches to experience a global sports experience firsthand. Additionally students will engage in sports diplomacy sessions with local organizations.

2023: Australia

Farther into the future, we hope to cultivate new partnerships and opportunities for travel to England, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and more.

and beyond

  • "It was so cool to be [abroad] and see how things are similar and different and talk with other kids about what it's like where they live. Now I think I'm also happier in my own home. I didn't know how to appreciate it before."

    —Sergio

  • "We all got along ok before we left, but... Walking around Paris, that's when I think we really came together and felt like a delegation."

    —Ashontis

  • "I enjoyed playing with the girls and feeling like I had to work hard. Now I support girls in sports more- like my football team played a school with a girl on defense. I didn't automatically assume she wouldn't be as good."

    —Kwinton

  • “I bonded with some young leaders from other countries during the festival, and now we keep a group chat where we check in on each other. I rely on them for advice and support now that I'm away at college for the first time.”

    —Dora

  • “As a parent, I'm excited for him to have this experience of going abroad. It's something that I never got to do and so I'm glad that Urban Initiatives can give him this opportunity."

    —Vanessa, Sergio's mom

  • "I developed as a leader because of how we had to work to bring everyone together even though we were so different. I think that you have to be a good listener to be a good leader."
